Launched by the LIVESTRONG Foundation in 2014 to generate innovation and improve the lives of those living with cancer, the Big C “is a global competition open to entrepreneurs, trailblazers, technology whizzes, fashionistas, medical geeks, game changers and anyone with an audacious product, service or innovation that helps those facing cancer today.”
The inaugural competition drew over 750 entries from 31 countries in a variety of fields, and after the first round of cuts Live Oak Legacies was selected, along with 167 other semi-finalists, to move on to the next round. “All 168 entries have the potential to be game changers in improving the lives of people affected by cancer now,” said Heather Wajer, VP of marketing at the LIVESTRONG Foundation. “We’re so thrilled with the quality of the entries and are lucky to have so many entrepreneurs interested in helping cancer patients, survivors and caregivers.”
In the semifinal round, each project will be paired with a cancer survivor mentor, who will support each venture and offer insight from the perspective of a potential consumer. 20 projects will be selected from the semifinal pool to advance to a venture accelerator round, which focuses on each projects’ next phase of development. Five finalists will be announced on September 29th, and each team will present their work during LIVESTRONG Foundation's annual Ride for the Rosesevent. A total of $140,000 will be awarded to the top 60 teams, with the winner taking home $25,000.
Live Oak Legacies is honored to be involved in such a positive and impactful event and recognized alongside the other wonderful semi-finalists. We're thrilled by the prospect of helping families who are dealing with cancer, capture and preserve their stories.
