Civil Rights Summit Celebrates the Legacy of LBJ and the Civil Rights Act

Kathryn Gonzales

From April 8th – 10th, the LBJ Presidential Library, located on the UT campus, will host a Civil Rights Summit to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the passage of the Civil Rights Act. The event highlights President Johnson’s legislative achievement, as well as the impact it has had on all Americans over the last half century.

In addition to an address by President Barack Obama, the three-day event will feature speeches by former Presidents Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, as well as other prominent figures including San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro, NFL hall of famer Jim Brown, NBA hall of famers Bill Russell and David Robinson, and journalist Maria Shriver.

Although the free tickets to the Summit sold out online in only 19 minutes, the event will be streamed online and on the Longhorn Network, and additional details are available here.

The struggle for Civil Rights has, and continues to be, one of our country's most compelling and definitive stories. If you are lucky enough to attend any of the event's sessions we would love to hear about it in the comments section.

Thanks, and have a great Tuesday!
